The wooden bowl is a reflection of both utility and beauty: an inspiring craft form to experience. Learn the safe operation and technique to turn wooden bowls on the lathe utilizing carbide tools. This class is focused on technique, rather than being project-based. Although most students will leave with finished items, this is not the primary goal. The most important thing is that students leave with an understanding of the lathe and a good set of techniques to continue in their turning practice. The following will be covered: - How to prepare the bowl blank using the bandsaw. - Different ways to mount a blank to the lathe via worm screws or faceplates. - Carbide tool handling - Creating a mortise - Shaping the bowl exterior design - Forming the rim - Clearing the interior - Sanding and finishing
This is not considered a Red Tool sign off class.
