This make-and-take-style class will teach you more advanced leatherworking skills while you make a Leather Bag.

Each student will receive a “Kit” which includes precut pieces of leather (lasered) and the necessary hardware and fixtures to complete this bag.

In this class you will learn leatherworking steps such as:

  • How leather patterns are set up
  • How to assemble a leather bag using a pattern
  • Edging and Burnishing
  • Conditioning and leather care
  • Skivving and when to do so
  • Hand sewing with overview of lasercut holes vs punched holes
  • Riveting with a Hand Press (and without)
  • Strap making if you want to make the bag into a purse
  • Adding hardware

All tools, leather, and hardware will be provided.

  • This bag has an accent piece in the center that could be done with a different design (lasered, marbled, or UV printed).  If you would like to do something other than what is pictured, please let the instructor know at least one week in advance and work with them to get the blank leather disc to do so.
  • Colors of the bags will be based on material availability; the instructor will bring options to choose from, first come first serve.

Prerequisites: While this is considered an advanced class, you do not need any prerequisite skills to attend, all needed skills will be taught.

This class will meet in the main room at the Leesburg location.

—------Important notes about scheduling—-----

Attendance for all 3 sessions is NOT required, however at least 1 hour of attendance the first evening is required. How much time of this class you spend in attendance is up to you.  You are paying for both the instruction and the availability of the instructor to assist with your project. It is expected that if you attend all three sessions you will have a 100% completed project by the end of the third class. If you miss some of the class time, you can work on the project on your own, and if needed, use the available tools to finish at your own pace.

This class must hit a minimum of 2 attendees 1 week before the class in order to be held. Registration will be open up to 48 hours before the class. Precut kits are made based on the signups.  No refunds will be given if a cancellation is received less than 48 hours before the first class.  If you need to cancel within 48 hours of the first class, you may give your spot to a different student.
